FAQs
What is counselling/ therapy? Counselling is two people in the same room, with the focus on you. My full presence and the therapeutic techniques I use are designed to help you feel held and supported during our sessions. This creates a reparative experience, one that can promote your emotional well-being and build resilience.
Why is counselling/ therapy weekly? Counselling/ therapy is usually held once a week, on the same day and time, to provide consistency and build trust between you (the client) and me (the therapist). This regular schedule helps create a safe and supportive space where meaningful progress can take place. I work both online and in-person, in a safe and confidential setting.
How many sessions will I need? Counselling may be long or short term, though I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions. The number of sessions will be tailored to you. During the initial assessment, we will discuss your needs and determine the best approach moving forward.
How much is a session? A typical session is charged at £70. I offer five concessionary spaces for key workers, individuals on low income, and university students. If you're interested, please reach out to discuss your circumstances and current availability.
What happens before counselling/ therapy starts? For children and teenagers (under 18): In our initial session, I will begin by meeting with both the parent and child together before seeing each separately. This approach ensures that both have a voice in the process, allowing me to understand their perspectives and concerns.
Following this, I will conduct an assessment with parents or carers to gather background history and explore presenting difficulties.
Once counselling commences, regular consultations ensure that the young client's needs and goals are kept in mind. Discussions can address progress, areas of difficulty and practical strategies to support parents/ carers.
For adults: In our first session, we’ll explore your reasons for seeking therapy, any questions you may have, and ensure that we both feel comfortable working together. This session will focus on understanding your emotional, physical, and mental well-being, giving us a clear picture of your current challenges.
We’ll discuss key aspects such as confidentiality and safety, and outline how we’ll move forward. My aim is to ensure you feel fully supported, informed, and confident in the therapeutic process.
